What starts as a photocopy becomes part of the artwork itself, fused into the surface rather than just glued on top.

The look you get depends on what you start with: a laser photocopy transfers with crisp, razor-sharp precision and holds fine detail beautifully, while an inkjet print softens into a dreamy, muted, watercolor-like effect. If you're using an inkjet print, let it dry completely before you begin — applying Powerprint to a still-damp print will smear your image. And since the print goes on face-down, remember to reverse or mirror your image before printing so it reads correctly once transferred.

This technique shines for layered collage work and partial image placement, where the transfer blends into the piece around it — it's not meant to be a perfect photographic reproduction, and that soft, hand-worked quality is exactly its charm.

Tips:

• Work on a light-colored, completely dry surface for the clearest results
• Reverse your image before printing, since it transfers face-down
• Coat both the receiving surface and the image side of your print with Powerprint, applying in alternating directions (horizontal, then vertical) for even coverage
• Press the print face-down and smooth it out with a roller or brush over a hard, flat surface
• Dry with a hair dryer (about 10 minutes per side) or let it air dry, then dampen the paper backing with a sponge and gently rub it away — repeat if any paper residue remains
