universal medium

Not clear to me what the advantage is over a regular transparent acrylic medium (from Golden or Liquitex). I am trying to use powertex powerwax and improving my ability to create thin translucent layers. So far this medium does not seem to help. My problem is that it does not make a smooth paste.

Hello Karin,
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback on the Transparent Universal Medium! We’re here to help and offer some suggestions to enhance your creative experience.

You can absolutely use Powerwax with other mediums, such as transparent acrylic mediums from Golden or Liquitex, to achieve the effects you’re aiming for. While Powerwax works beautifully as a finishing layer on its own, if you’re using it to build layers, we recommend pairing it with a binder. Any acrylic medium, paint, or our Transparent Universal Medium can act as that binder to help you achieve smoother, more translucent layers.

If you’re having difficulty blending Powerwax, we encourage you to check out the Blending Tips section on the Powerwax product page for helpful guidance. You can find it here: https://powertexproductsusa.com/collections/new-items/products/powertex-powerwax-cold-wax-250gr

I also noticed that you purchased Powersmooth powder—great choice! This can be mixed with the Transparent Universal Medium to create a smooth texture paste or even an air-dry clay. With proper kneading, it should form a very smooth clay. For a unique texture, you can also add a little Powerwax to this mixture to experiment further.

If you have any additional questions or would like tips on techniques, don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re always happy to support your creative journey and help you get the most out of your materials. Thank you again for your feedback, and we can’t wait to see what you create!
