Do you have an ornament on your tree that tells a story every December? Make a few of your own this year. This bundle gathers the Powertex supplies I reach for when I make ornaments: start simple with fabric and Universal Medium, then build up texture, stone, color, and shimmer until each one feels like a small sculpture. They dry rock hard, won't shatter if they hit the floor, and are made to hang on your tree for years.
It's a wonderful project to share with your kids or grandkids, too. Let everyone make their own, and write each artist's name and the year on the bottom.
See how to use this bundle: my step-by-step blog post, Handmade Christmas Ornaments with Powertex: Simple to Stunning, walks you from a simple fabric-wrapped ornament to stone, color and gold.
What's in the bundle
- Powertex Universal Medium Transparent 500g to harden the fabric and paper and hold every layer in place
- Stockinette White 1m, a soft stretchy fabric that drapes and folds beautifully around a ball
- Paperdecoration Mulberry Paper White 30g for delicate, fibrous texture
- Stone Art Structure Powder 250g to mix into Universal Medium for a carved stone look
- 3D Sand & Balls Sample Pack to press into the wet medium for raised texture that catches color
- Bister Powder Sample Kit with all seven Bister colors, plus a 7 pack of 4oz fine mist spray bottles. Mix each color with water in its own bottle and mist it over your dry ornaments. It settles into every fold and crevice for an aged, antique patina.
- Colortricx Metallic Pigment Rich Gold 16g and Easy Varnish 100ml. Mix a little gold with the varnish to make your own paint, wipe most of it off your brush, and dry brush it over every raised edge. The varnish also seals your Bister color, which is water-reactive on its own.
New to dry brushing? My free Create a Real Bronze Look guide walks you through it.
What you'll provide
This bundle holds the Powertex supplies. You'll bring the rest: any spherical form you have on hand (I prefer Smoothfoam balls, because Universal Medium grips the smooth surface beautifully, but polystyrene balls work too), any ribbon or twine from your stash for hanging, a brush, gloves, and any lace, cord, or other embellishments you'd like to add.
