BLENDING TIPS

Here are some suggestions to help you achieve a smoother consistency:

  • Thorough Mixing: Powerwax can sometimes resist blending initially, especially when mixed with acrylic mediums. We recommend starting with a small amount of acrylic paint and medium, gradually adding the Powerwax while mixing with firm pressure using a palette knife. This process ensures the wax is fully incorporated.
  • Warming the Powerwax: If the wax feels stiff, slightly warming it (by letting it sit in a warm room or holding a little in your hands for a minute).
  • Dilution with Mediums: If you prefer thin, translucent layers, try increasing the ratio of acrylic medium to Powerwax. This can help create a more fluid, spreadable mixture without compromising the translucency.
  • Testing Proportions: Every combination of products behaves slightly differently. We suggest experimenting with small batches and adjusting the Powerwax, medium, and paint ratios until you achieve the desired texture and transparency.

love the finish

I have been searching for a medium that will give my paintings a certain matte finish and to give my collages a more uniform surface - this wax is exactly what I needed. I’ve only used it so far as a top layer- I will play more with adding paint to it as well. So far I’m very happy with the results.

Great product! Just what I've been looking for!

I received my first Powerwax in April or May 2025 so I assume it is the second formula. I love that the texture is truly "waxy" like I wanted from a cold wax. It does take some effort with your palette knife to blend with paint, it doesn't simply blend with a brush. I take out a chunk and work it with my knife to soften and smooth out chunks before I add paint. As an acrylic artist I'm excited to have something that works like cold wax since I love the texture and look of oils with cold wax, but I don't work in oil. It does lengthen the drying time of acrylics. For me it's dry to the touch in about a day, still much faster than oils! There is a bit of a solvent smell (makes sense since some kind of solvent is going to be necessary to make a wax water soluble), but it goes away once it dries. I wish I could purchase it somewhere locally because my only concern is having it shipped during the hot summer months.

New recipe powerwax

I use this wax for need felted sculptures and I have the say the old style worked so much better than this new formula. I will be looking for other options going forward. This new formula does not do even close to the same thing as the previous version. It is not comparable at all.

Powerwax by Powertex

This product is fantastic. As a mixed media artist I have used it on canvas, paper, metal, rusted substrates, wood. It seals the work to a satin sheen beautifully with no stickiness or streaks at all. I also seal textured work with it. Adding colors to it is a breeze as well as clean up. The BEST is filling the cracks after using a crackle medium. Stencils, stamps, carving, texture rollers, all come through clean and can also easily create prominent textured depth. A tiny amount really goes a long way. Like a nickel size amount filled the cracks on a 4”x4” . Buy the larger can because it’s definitely worth it.
